	Emerson Township composes the central, near-eastern region of Gratiot County, with its southwest corner touching the tip of Ithaca, the county seat. This is a major agricultural area with dry beans and corn the primary products. This township was organized in 1855 and named after William Imisson, an English Pioneer. A major feature of this area includes the Methodist Church, (circa 1879), located at the intersection of Tyler and Baldwin Roads in the township’s center, and maintained by the Gratiot County Historical Society.
