Burt Township Population: 2000(480) 1990(508) Change(-28)
Grand Marais is located on the beautiful southern shore of Lake Superior in Burt Township of Alger County, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It is the "gateway" to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and the best place to begin to see Sauble Lake, the log slide and the Point Sauble Lighthouse, 3, 6 and 10 miles west respectively.
In the summertime, this town is packed with kayakers, who use this as a starting point to paddle westward along the shoreline to see the rock formations. Its inland cove appears almost idyllic amidst the glistening sunlight and the deep blue waters of the big lake. The channel, just north of the Coast Guard Station, is a good place for fishing, and a great place to view the beach. |
