Population 3,402 (1990) Buchanan Township is located in southern Berrien County. The St. Joseph River along with various lakes provide ample sites for water recreation. Fishermen and boaters can find access to the St. Joseph River at Redbud Riverfront Park just north of town on Redbud Trail. The largest community in Buchanan Township is the town of Buchanan. There are many activities available in Buchanan Township. During warm weather golfers will enjoy a round of play at Brookwood Golf Course, while winter ski enthusiasts will delight in the cross country ski trails of Fernwood Botanic Gardens & Nature Center. If speed is what you want, the place to be is Red Bud Track 'N Trail, an internationally known motocross race. Also nearby is Michiana Raceway Park, a nationally known go-cart racing school with a challenging quarter mile asphalt road course featuring a 180 degree hairpin.
