Dickinson County is the youngest county in Michigan. Iron ore established Dickinson's place in Michigan history. The Chapin Mine produced 27 million tons of ore from 1880 until it closed in 1934. Chapin mine has been restored as a tourist attraction.

The forested lands and rolling terrain criss-crossed by rivers and streams provide year round recreational opportunities .The Menominee River is noted for walleye fishing. Pine Mountain is the highest artificial ski jump in the world This a real haven for nature lovers.
