Coleman is located half-way between Clare and Midland. It is situated on the Pere Marquette Trail, (Rails to Trails). The trail is paved beginning at Coleman, all the way to Midland. Coleman is a great place to spot your car if you're bicycling the trail or just want to shop in a small town atmosphere.

In 1994, a meteorite known as the "Coleman meteorite" fell near the city.
