Camden, Michigan49232

Photos courtesy of: Ken Huisjen | Camden is located in southwestern Hillsdale County on M-49, just a couple of miles from the Michigan/Indiana State line. This is a small rural community supported chiefly by agriculture. The West Branch of the St. Joseph River flows through here to the north of town. One point of interest includes the city park, just a block south of the main street area: it includes a picnic area and playscape.
Camden was first settled by Easton T. Chester and son, Orson in 1837. It was originally named Cranbrook by the first postmaster, James Fowler. It was changed to Camden in 1840 when the townspeople decided to have a drawing from a hat to give everyone a fair chance: the name came from Chester, who submitted it because he was from Camden, New York.
